    Trimming and binding areas

    Hello everyone,

A lot of people create their pages before they decide to print them in photobooks. Then when they put their pages into Photobook Designer and see that the grey binding and trimming zones, they often worry that their pages will be trimmed.

To clear up some of your fears, I have decided to explain better.

We handmake every book with as much care as possible.

The trimming lines around the outside may or may not be lost at all. They are there to let you know there is a possibility that they may be trimmed.

The printer may produce up to 1mm skew or misalignment from the back page. The guilotine may produce up to 1mm crooked trimming. These are extremely minor and are not noticed at all unless you have an extrememly thin border around the outside of your book.

We add 4mm of white page to the inside binding edge of your 12x12 books, so you will not actually lose the information here, but if you add text in here, this will render it very difficult to read. I even suggest leaving as much space as possible before you start to write text in the inside edge. It just makes your book nicer to read without the need to force the pages down to read.

We advise not having borders of less than 5mm around your pages, if you plan to have them printed at fill bleed.

If you have found that a page isn't suitable to risk trimming at all, then just use the template that leaves a white border around the outside. You can always colour it or add another background to it if you wish.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Cheers,

    Suz
